Chilling in Brooklyn

Our first night hanging out in Brooklyn with good friends Shane Welch, owner and Brewmaster of Sixpoint Craft Ales. And Cathy Erway, food writer and author of The Art of Eating In. See her blog here. Not Eating Out In New York. Cathy spent two years of cooking at home and learning more about local foods and wrote a wonderful book about her experience. It must have taken incredible dedication considering the caliber restaurants of New York and the ones they took us to over the weekend.

Cathy stopped by a market to get cheese, crackers, dips, and fresh cherries. As well as some fresh raisin Challah bread to wake up to. Delicious snacks with some beers while Shane geeked out on music.

We also got to try some handmade paté de fruit from some good friends of Cathy. She has the hook up on all the good secrets of Brooklyn.

A few libations for the evening. It's not Westvleteren, just the glass wear.

 

That Sierra Nevada Torpedo behind these beers, then gets horribly disrespected. I cracked it open before I saw the other beers being poured. I said, "no problem I will stick it in the freezer for few while I drink this one." Of course you know, I completely forgot about it.

I cleaned it up, but it felt bad to waste a good beer. 

Then I took some random shots playing around with my new camera. I got a Nikon D5000. It's a fierce camera, but I literally got it 2 days before Brooklyn. I think it will take me a long time before I fully understand how to use it. still, I liked this messed up images anyway. We had a chill night with great friends.

And I don't to forget my new best friend, Barley the dog. Shane adopted Barley from a shelter. It took a bit of her getting used to us, but by the end, she loved us as much as we loved her.

Just a couple of random pics from Brooklyn over the 4th of July weekend. Nothing too crazy, but a few pics I wanted to post.

We spent a quiet weekend with good friends Shane Welch and Cathy Erway, in Brooklyn laying low, taking it easy, going out to eat at fantastic restaurants, and drinking. No big parties, no BA meet ups, though we did miss some of our other good friends in Brooklyn. It was low-key because it was me and Todd's 5th wedding anniversary and we wanted to quietly get out of Boston for a few days.

The Hula Hooping babe at Union Pool in Brooklyn. Some random chick who whipped out a neon-lit hula hoop and gave everyone on the patio of this bar a free show. She got a little burlesque at the end laying on her back whipping it around her leg with her panties hanging out. Just sayin'!

After coming home from Brooklyn, we were inspired by our friends exploring their own neighborhoods and finding good little restaurants, so we decided to check out the Mount Everest Kitchen in Allston. After trying Nepalese food for the first time in Sydney, Australia and loving it, I was excited to try this place.

We weren't let down. The food was great, service was good, and it's a cute little restaurant with no one in it. This place is begging to be filled up and I hope it becomes popular. The only issue we had was their A/C was broken. It made it unbearable to hang out in there during the hottest days in the summer. But they said they were working on it. They are also adding 8 new items to their menu. I can't wait to go back and check them out.

Mango lassi's, garlic nan, Khasi Ra Pharshi (goat meat cooked with pumpkin in a Nepalese-style nutmeg sauce), Bheda Masala (Boneless lamb cooked with garlic, ginger, onion and Himalayan spiced creamy sauce), and a small side of a lentil stew.

And with that a new adventure has been sparked in us to seek out the great gems of Boston.
