DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT give Jenny McCarthy a platform to spew her awful views, inaccurate information about Autism, and teaching people not to get their kids vaccinated. She has the potential to harm thousands of children and families, those that listen to her bad advice.
I urge you not to support her platform or help her spread her misinformation. The lives she affects, the lives she will end up hurting will also rest on your head if you allow that moron the opportunity.
I urge you to listen to people who know what they are talking about like actual doctors. Listen to families who have suffered losses of children and their stories.

This information was found with a quick search of the internet. I am not a Doctor, I don't play one on t.v., but the information is there. Talk to doctors or anyone who works in the medical health profession. They will all tell you that Jenny McCarthy, a brainless former playboy model whose drapes do not match the rug, should be the very last person giving advice about autism and vaccinations. Some who calls her boyfriend Jim Carrey, "The Autism Whisperer." Classy!
Shame on you Oprah!! Shame on you for even entertaining this idea. You should be advocating on behalf of Doctors and actual science. If you wanted ratings or some controversy to bring your name some more press, why not deal with the issues at your school in South Africa? Why offer up something that potentially hurts even more children?
Again, I plead that you do not support Jenny McCarthy's platform or give her one to promote such terrible information. A boycott should be in order of your shows and anything you represent should you choose to stand up for someone who can potentially harm thousands of children.
Love,
Scandalous Candice
(Disclaimer: Oprah is a very powerful woman. If I end up dead or my car has mysteriously driven off into a ditch, I am just saying Oprah is a very powerful woman. One who can make things happen or people disappear if she wanted them gone for oh let's say inciting a boycott of her empire.)

Boy candace, do you have McCarthy's ticket punched. She's just an uneducated bimbo.

If you're stupid enough to believe that vaccines cause autism, you probably shouldn't have your lineage extended any further anyway. Natural selection and all that crap.

Bob and Don't Believe..,
You both are goddamn alarmists and conspiracy theory nut jobs.
No one has an insidious agenda to make all of our children defective through vaccinations.
There is evidence all around that disproves vaccinations cause autism.
I love how you people refuse to admit that our environment is corrupted with many many pollutants. We take drugs we don't need for everything, our waters are tainted with plastics, IVF, women having babies later in life when the risks are higher, hormones, and air pollutants, ect. You name it, our entire planet is filthy, any number of things could be the cause. We have no idea of knowing the impact of what we are doing today. Our genetics are impacted by these things. Genetics. That's the real problem.
But what we do know through rigorous testing, vaccines are not the cause.
And yeah I am not a fucking doctor, or a scientist. I am just someone with a little bit of common sense. Someone who knows better than to listen to nut jobs looking for anyone to blame for their defective genes and their defective children. Someone else to blame for their hardships.
I am sorry we have to deal with these kinds issues with our children. Babies are innocent and don't deserve it. But it s the nature of the beast and we fucked with nature. But you all are fucking crazy to tell people vaccinations are evil and the drug companies are out to get us all.

What's sad is that Jenny has hidden guilt about her child - she fears she caused the autism. This fear gets projected onto vaccines so she can avoid her own guilt and shame. Pity.

What you don't think the FDA has an agenda? Please..
Posted by: Don't believe everything you read | May 05, 2009 at 10:42 AM
How do you know vaccinations are safe? Through your own experience? Because, as you said, you are not a doctor. So you are dependent on what others are telling you. What if they are wrong? What if the pharamceutical industry has an agenda? What if the profit-motive is intensely non-objective? What if vaccinations aren't safe? Who tests vaccinations? What are the many, many reasons diseases become erradicated or proliferate? What happens to a compromised immune system? How much money is involved in vaccinating the public? What is fear-mongering and how is it used in relationship to diseases, eg. Swine Flu? Do children contract polio from the polio vaccine? What are the mobidity and mortality rates for various childhood diseases? Incidence of permanent damage?
There are so many questions, but you don't ask them. Why? Because YOU have an agenda. Give up your agenda and look for the facts. There is more out there than you know. And it ain't good. Stop knowing you have the answers and start looking at the questions. For the sake of the children. Do it for the sake of the children. Don't they deserve the truth, if we are going to inject it into them. Because once it's done, it cannot be undone.

hmmmm..... billions of babies vaccinated throughout the years and suddenly an outbreak of autism? me don't think so.
first, if i am not mistaken, the DSM-IV handbook broadened the definition of what autism is to include what once was considered slow-learner or mild mental retardation.
second, and i think this is the real problem, is that women aren't supposed to have babies in their 40s. In fact, doctors say that pregnancy becomes increasingly dangerous after a woman reaches the age 35.
so you have all of these women who decided to put having a family on hold so that they could pursue their careers and then they decide (usually after 35) that they are ready to get pregnant and have a baby. but oh no, they can't get pregnant. they keep trying and they want it so bad but they are having trouble getting pregnant. so what do they do? they get pumped up with fertility drugs and IVF and they basically use science to tweak nature.
and surprise surprise, they don't have just one baby but they end up having twins or triplets or octoplets. and oh my, an even bigger surprise, these kids sometimes have problems. like autism, amongst other things.
so these strong, successful women who put having a family on hold in order to pursue their career, are suddenly motivated by a new cause, i.e. autism.
is it a surprise to any one that the majority of these mothers are older, successful/wealthy, women that are able to push forward their latest agenda?
no doubt, vaccines and all the medicine they pump into our newborn babies needs to be tested and researched exhaustively. it certainly is mind boggling how many shots a baby gets in their first few years of life. and maybe there is a correlation between the increase in vaccines and the drug companies that are most likely lobbying for these drugs.
but come on... the truth is that some babies are just slower to develop than others. some babies are not as bright and some are mentally retarded. years ago, the majority of autistic kids would have been called retarded or slow. but i guess not every parent wants to have a retarded baby and needs to slap a pretty name on it. a name that is a cause. a cause that they can get behind and exploit.
sorry folks, but please vaccinate your babies. don't be fooled.
Posted by: doctor doctor | May 05, 2009 at 08:48 AM
while i think it's possible that pumping a newborn full of anti-virals can have an effect, i find the recent study that shows a correlation between pitocin, an artificial hormone used extensively in labor inductions, and autism much more plausible.

The side effects of aluminum, which is in most baby vaccines, is unknown. It's never been studied.
Their is, however, evidence that aluminum causes brain and bone toxicity in infants, especially premature ones. Those studies were done with much smaller doses than those found in vaccines (25-50 micrograms, compared to up to 725 micrograms found in some combo vaccines):

As a mother of a vaccine damaged son I want to say not everyone is anti vaccine. We just want more research to make vaccines safe for every child, and find out why some children react badly to them.
Posted by: S. Middleton | May 04, 2009 at 09:07 PM
I totally agree with what you put on here. It is really funny that no one notices that whatever new Fads Hollywood goes with, it usually ends up badly.
The main point, Yes mercury is bad, Thimerisol is a derivative it. However, there has been no link and the link that there was, those people already said they made a mistake. Sorry but how come we as parents got the vaccines and you don't see problems. Vaccines Magically decided to start having problems?
How about this fact, Rubella would cause birth defects and mental retardation in 20,000 newborns or 4 million infections of Measles with 3,000 deaths. Everyone loves their kids but puts them at risk. Watch, these same people will complain when kids start dying from diseases and blame others that they weren't told how bad it was. Right now, everyone's lucky that the government has most of the people around them vaccinated!
Posted by: Frank Smith | May 04, 2009 at 08:35 PM
Cidu,
Thimerosal:
a) doesn't cause autism. No reliable, peer-reviewed, repeatable study has ever even suggested that it did.
b) Isn't contained in childhood vaccines anymore, except for some flu shots.
http://www.fda.gov/cber/vaccine/Thimerosal.htm
By not vaccinating your kids, you are putting other children at risk. You are putting public health at risk.
Your actions are DIRECTLY causing Measles to come back. The Fucking Measles. Polio. Whooping Cough. Dangerous, potentially fatal diseases that would be extinct if it weren't for the likes of idiots like you.
I am a firm believer that all public schools, both K-12 and University should require a solid record of vaccinations. Period, no exceptions...
...If for no other reason than to make people like you stand up to defend a child's denial of the education they deserve, while trying to claim that you're somehow doing them a favor.

Cidu,
Nope I published your comment so you look like the biggest ass here commenting. It's clear you didn't look in to it yourself.

thimerisol is still present in the majority of childhood vaccines, this is a form of mercury, mercury exposure in early life can trigger autisim, what is so hard to understand about that? sure, vaccines wont cause autisim if you get the special thimerisol free ones but there are many other dangers, im guessing this comment will be moderated out, prove me wrong..
Posted by: cidu | May 04, 2009 at 07:26 PM
I agree. Jenny's beliefs have been proven I repeat, proven, to have no scientific merit whatsoever, and are extremely dangerous to children. In many many cases the symptoms of autism appear at approximately the same time that the vaccinations are typically given. Correlation is not causation.

Tom,
Who says I haven't looked at both sides of the issue?
Just because we don't agree or see eye to eye doesn't mean I didn't look in to the antivaxxers claims. There is simply no evidence that supports there claims.
Jaime,
I thank you for the compliments but I could give a fuck if someone is offended by bush.
Posted by: Scandalous Candice | May 04, 2009 at 07:04 PM
As the parent of a child with autism, I urge you to give this issue a thoughtful, balanced look.
Posted by: Tom Gilboy | May 04, 2009 at 06:49 PM
Those are the only two "jokes" in an otherwise very thoughtful and important post that's filled with useful information. Heck, it made it to the Reddit frontpage. The joke about Oprah rubbing you out is quite funny. The rug-not-matching-drapes bit is just lame. If you took it out, you'd have a very persuasive essay and I bet you'd get a lot of links to it. As it stands, you've greatly decreased those odds.
Posted by: Jaime Dyson | May 04, 2009 at 06:44 PM
It's called a joke. One only has to look at my blog to know that I take the piss out of everyone.
I am totally serious that she will end up killing people by suggesting that vaccinations are bad and could make your child autistic. She must be stopped, ridiculed and mocked til no end.
But if you couldn't tell this post was meant to be some what humorous by the link to her rug not matching the drapes, surely the end bit about Oprah rubbing me out of the picture would have indicated that? No?
Posted by: Scandalous Candice | May 04, 2009 at 06:35 PM
I'm on your side, but I think you undermined your point with the ad hominem link to Jenny's picture.
