How Barack Obama Should Have Ended His Speech
No Doubt about it that Barack Obama gave a historic speech last night. He ended all party division with the help of the Clinton's, he laid out his plans for this country siting 29 polices, he reintroduced himself to the American people, he didn't hold back on going after John McCain, and he graciously accepted the official presidential nomination of any party as the first African-American ever. There wasn't a dry eye in the house with 84k in attendance. And thousands more on the streets of Denver.
Barack Obama's convention will go down in the books as one of the greatest. And this generation has finally witnessed something so historically important. I was not old enough for Martin Luther King Jr. But his message resonates so strongly even today. And now I can take comfort that my generation has it's hero too.
Last night we witnessed something metaphoric. You may find this cheesy but I have no other comparison more accurate.
Last night the republican party was left with their jaws on the floor. Totally slack jawed and dumb founded. They knew Barack Obama was coming to deliver his speech. And they knew it would be good. The did not anticipate it hitting on so many fronts and resonating with so many people.
Fox News was forced to do the impossible and praise Obama. Karl Rove, the devil himself struggled real hard to find anything at all wrong with his speech. He was left stammering and only had petty issues to mention.
Basically what it reminded me of, was Neo from the Matrix. When Neo stands up after he was shot dead and officially becomes "The One." He destroyed Smith with no effort. And the republicans, like the other two agents standing by watching as Smith was destroyed, had no other choice but to run.
Last night the republican party was running. They were scrambling to find worthy criticism of Barack Obama's speech. And rumors that McCain might redo his convention because he is struggling to find even 10k people to show up, republicans switching parties, infighting int h republican party that is being kept under wraps that half of the party really hates John McCain, and any one who John McCain picks as VP is going to stir trouble inside the party because all of the choices are weak or have a major flaw.
It's glorious to watch them crash and burn.
So back to my point of this post. How Barack Obama should have ended his speech last night. Since I mentioned The Matrix it's only fitting that end it with a quote from The Matrix.
"I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you."
For Gavin

I hope you're right, I hope he is the one and that he can dodge bullets.
I hope the republicans have the good graces to accept defeat, and not play any dirtier than they already are.
